The Heartlands Project involved the large scale regeneration of a redundant mining site in the heart of Cornwall. The site is designated as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site; Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

This mixed-use scheme incorporates residential dwellings, commercial and retail units, community facilities and a cafe/restaurant. Externally, a diaspora garden has been created celebrating Cornish mining heritage, as well as the Westcountry's largest adventure playground. The development is all set within a 4-acre parkland setting continually open to the public.

The project has transformed the local area, acting as a catalyst for further development and economic growth. Lavigne Lonsdale were instrumental in the design of both the public realm and access patterns to the help integrate this public attraction with existing and proposed neighbourhoods. Works included design of new streets with integrated SUDS features, Public Artworks and the realisation of public spaces along Trevenson Road.

Lavigne Lonsdale was appointed as part of the design team to provide Masterplanning and Landscape Architecture services.

This multi-award winning scheme won numerous accolades locally and nationally from the RIBA, RICS, CSA, RTPI, Civic Trust and the Green Organisation.
