Jeffrey Kelson Pocket Park
Treliske Hospital, Truro
Client: Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust (RCHT)
Value: £20K
Location: Truro, Cornwall

Lavigne Lonsdale were competition winners for a prestigious project to provide a new pocket park within the setting of Cornwall Hospital. The Park was generously funded by the Jeffrey Kelson Foundation specifically for a natural space or garden within the hospital grounds primarily for staff use.

Our entry drew inspiration from the NHS’ Hospitals within a Forest scheme to be a catalyst for further tree planting across the whole site. The designs include wildflower meadow planting, sensory and fragrant planting palettes, bee and bug hotel, mature pine trees seating and picnic areas.  Seating and tables incorporated both blood cell and pill forms with colours to reflect RCHT department colours.

The scheme engaged  with Trust, Physicians and Health Consultants who formed a collective steering group. The final design reflected how they felt this space could be used by staff for well-being and relaxation.
