Planning Approval for Mawla Holiday Cottage

10 Jul Planning Approval for Mawla Holiday Cottage

Lavigne Lonsdale are  delighted to announce that we have received planning approval for our project – Mawla holiday cottage.

The client approached Lavigne Lonsdale to look at options for converting an existing outbuilding on their property into a two bedroom holiday let.

The site is located in The Cornish Mining World heritage Site and within an Area of Great Historical Interest. The land was formerly a mine worker’s smallholding and has been deemed to hold considerable historical significance and value.

Contending with the various designations was a challenge, however, Lavigne Lonsdale worked together with the client to create a successful solution.

The property comprises of two en-suite bedrooms and a large open-plan living area, which will provide generous spaces for holidaymakers to enjoy.

The design used recessive natural materials, which has created a sensitive, contextual response that will enhance the current rural setting. The interior will also be flooded with natural daylight, with large areas of glazing incorporated into the façade.

We are looking forward to progressing with the next phase of the project.

Tony Smith, Head of Architecture at Lavigne Lonsdale, said: “We are delighted that this scheme has been approved and we have gained planning permission for our client”.

“Collectively we wanted to create a buildingthat was functional and aesthetically pleasing, whilst being sympathetic to its historic surroundings”.

“As a business, we are currently working on a number of residential projects throughout Devon and Cornwall. From large scale retirement schemes through to one-off  homes and everything in between.

“We are also involved in the refurbishment and re-purposing of existing buildings and this is a fantastic example of how buildings can be transformed for future use”.
