RTPI Lecture

I ( Martyn Lonsdale) gave a lecture this week in London for the RTPI on the subject of  New Routes to Design at a Local Level. The subject was aimed at understanding how the design and delivery process (for which Planning is only a small component) can effect the quality of a project. I am sure as landscape architects, you have all been in the position of having budgets cut after planning through the process of Value Engineering, and how this can drastically effect the quality and ‘intent’ of a project following Planning and Design Review.  This lecture was aimed at creating a debate regarding continual Design Review through the construction phases of projects and the need to maintain quality in the face of spending cuts.

Other speakers included Kathy MacEwen (CABE), Chris Lamb (Kent Architecture Centre), Dominic Murphy (Creating Excellence) and Sophia de Sousa (Glass House).
